We are thrilled to announce this year's Summer of Service — a chance for our youth and their families to grow in their understanding of how Christians are called to engage with the world around them. Through both service and learning opportunities, students will connect with local organizations currently doing meaningful work in our communities. This year, we will be partnering with the following organizations:
Green Seattle Partnership [Jul 17, 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM] - Meet at SCC, then come along to Magnuson Park for a restoration workday as we learn about and care for God’s Creation, together. Register here.
Vision House [Jul 24, 7 - 9 PM] Meet us at SCC, as we learn about this transitional housing program that helps break the cycle of homelessness for families with children. This workday includes the opportunity to help make blankets for families and participate in a drive for crucial supplies.
Penny’s Place [Jul 26, 10:45 AM - 2:30 PM] Join us at Penny’s Place confidential Women’s Shelter where we will serve and learn about the transitional housing program for women and children fleeing domestic violence and trafficking.
REST [Aug 22, 7-9PM] Meet us at SCC for a time of learning and discussion about what REST is doing to expand pathways to freedom, safety, and hope for survivors in order to end sex trafficking.
Elizabeth Gregory Home [Aug 29, 7-9PM] Meet us at SCC, for a time of learning and participate in a donation drive. Come learn about what Elizabeth Gregory Home is doing to provide a welcoming and respectful refuge where women who are experiencing homelessness, trauma, or economic insecurity have access to a caring community and critical resources.
We want to ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate. If you or your student needs a ride or help coordinating carpools, we’re happy to assist. Please don’t hesitate to reach out so we can make it work! These events are open to Adults to come and learn and serve alongside our youth. Let’s serve together, learn together, and grow together this summer. We’re excited for what God will do in and through our youth during these weeks. Contact Boston Johnson with questions and to get involved!
